Slab Leak Repair
Slab leak repair begins after an under-slab domestic supply failure has been confirmed. The next decision is property-specific: whether the evidence supports a targeted repair, rerouting the affected line or further investigation before work is selected.
Targeted repair and rerouting address different project conditions. A broader interior repiping question belongs to a separate Whole House Repipe Plumber - The Crazy Plumber card assessment when evidence shows a distributed supply-system concern. One under-slab failure, one previous repair or the age of the building does not decide that outcome by itself.
The recommendation should explain the confirmed source and material, accessible condition, defect distribution, repair history, pipe route, slab and floor construction, access, dwelling form, shared-system constraints, property plans and reasonable alternatives. Detection evidence supports this decision but does not make it.
What This Service Does, and What It Does Not
This service assesses and carries out an agreed property-specific repair path for a confirmed under-slab domestic supply leak. If the under-slab source is not confirmed, begin with Slab Leak Detection card. General unresolved detection, interior pipe repair, Poly B work, buried private-service work and non-domestic systems remain separate pathways.
Targeted Repair and Rerouting
Targeted repair through the slab. This option may be reasonable when the failure area is sufficiently established, the affected section can be accessed safely and the surrounding evidence does not establish a broader problem. The proposal must identify the planned access, pipe repair, testing, concrete work and restoration boundaries. A targeted repair addresses one failed section and does not prove the condition of the remaining line or guarantee permanence.
Rerouting the affected line. This option may avoid direct access at the failure area by placing a replacement route through accessible building space. The design depends on the confirmed line, connection points, sizing, selected material, available routes, supports, exposure, finished surfaces and authority requirements. The proposal must show which line is rerouted, how the former route is made inactive, what openings are required and which restoration work is included.
Broader repiping assessment. Distributed failures, restriction, unsuitable materials or joints, recurring difficult access or a planned redesign may justify a separate whole-home assessment. Slab Leak Repair does not decide that project. The broader recommendation must define the evidence, alternatives, replacement boundary and piping that would remain in service.
Start With Safety and Scope
If water is active, check for gas and electrical hazards before approaching the area or operating a valve. Stay out of wet electrical areas, restricted mechanical rooms, unsafe dust zones and areas with unstable finishes. Use only a safely accessible private shutoff, never force a questionable valve and never operate a municipal curb stop. Water-heater isolation requires property-specific professional guidance rather than a universal homeowner instruction.
Concrete access, plumbing repair, drying, mould assessment, structural assessment, hazardous-material work, flooring and reconstruction are separate scopes unless the agreed proposal states otherwise. Insurance coverage and documentation requirements vary by policy and loss. Confirm them with the insurer or broker without assuming that a plumbing record will determine coverage.
What Affects the Cost
Scope and cost depend on the confirmed line and repair boundary, access, slab and floor construction, selected route and materials, number and consequence of openings, occupied-space controls, testing, authority requirements and the concrete, flooring or reconstruction work included. A useful proposal should identify its assumptions, exclusions and conditions that could change the scope before the homeowner chooses an option.
If You Live in a Strata, Duplex, or Rental Suite
A confirmed under-slab failure in a strata, duplex or rental property may involve unit-side or shared piping, common property and building-controlled access. Confirm the users served, responsibility documents, shutoff control, property-management procedure and who can authorize openings or work. The plumbing assessment should not promise responsibility, authorization, coverage or another party’s decision.
What to Have Ready Before We Arrive
- The detection findings, including what is confirmed, what remains uncertain and which areas were inaccessible.
- The floor finish, construction and known services near the suspected repair area.
- Repair history, visible pipe information, available plans and any previous work on the affected line.
- Whether the property is detached, shared, rental or strata-managed, and who controls access or shared shutoffs.
- Renovation, flooring or occupancy plans that may change access, route or restoration priorities.

When to Assess Slab Leak Repair
- An under-slab domestic supply failure has been confirmed with enough evidence to consider access and repair options.
- The assessment identifies the affected line and explains the confidence, uncertainty and any additional investigation needed before work.
- Repair history, access consequences or route conditions make it useful to compare targeted repair with rerouting.
- A qualified professional has isolated an affected line and a permanent repair path still needs to be assessed.
- Floor finishes, renovation plans or building use materially change the access and restoration comparison.
- A strata, shared-system or occupied-building arrangement requires authorization and access planning before work.
Job steps
What The Crazy Plumber Does
- Confirm the failure and decision boundary. Review the detection findings, source confidence, identified line, accessible condition and any unresolved investigation before selecting work.
- Compare practical options. Explain targeted repair and rerouting in terms of access, route, affected finishes, testing, restoration boundaries and reasonable alternatives. Route any distributed supply-system concern to a separate Whole House Repipe assessment.
- Define access and adjacent trades. Identify the planned openings, dust and occupant controls, concrete or finish work, hazardous-material questions and the responsibilities of each trade before work begins.
- Approve the repair design. Confirm the selected pipe and fittings, connections, route, supports, protection, isolation and testing for the actual property and applicable requirements.
- Complete and verify the agreed plumbing scope. Inspect and test the work while it remains accessible, following the selected products, approved design and any required authority process.
- Explain the result and remaining boundaries. State what was repaired or rerouted, what piping remains, what uncertainty remains and which concrete, flooring, drying or reconstruction work is included or still outstanding.

Questions homeowners ask
Disruption depends on the access method, slab and floor construction, nearby services, dust and occupant controls, repair scope, testing and the concrete or finish work included. Review the planned opening, work sequence, water interruption, exclusions and restoration responsibilities before approving the repair. Do not rely on a universal one-day or same-day-restoration promise.
Not automatically. The proposal should state whether concrete, underlayment, tile, hardwood, laminate, cabinetry, drywall, painting or other finish work is included and which qualified trade owns each part. Matching existing materials may require separate assessment and sourcing.
Targeted repair addresses the confirmed failed section through local access. Rerouting replaces the affected route through another path. Compare source confidence, surrounding condition, repair history, route, access, finished surfaces, project plans, serviceability and reasonable alternatives. Neither option proves the condition of unrelated piping or guarantees that another failure cannot occur.
Sometimes. Disconnection, capping, removal or abandonment depends on the approved design, connection points, other users, applicable requirements and whether the former route conflicts with new work. The proposal should state how the old line will be made inactive and documented without claiming that one treatment fits every property.
Huge thanks to Ryan! Our kitchen drain issue was pretty complicated, and Ryan spent almost two full days working on it and making sure everything was properly fixed. He was super easy to talk to, very patient, and clearly cared about doing the job right instead of rushing through it. Everything is working perfectly now. Really appreciate the hard work!
This is the second time we have hired this company and both times they did a great job. I called last night spoke to Brad and they were at my Dad's house by 8:45 a.m. the next morning. Tony did an incredible job today. He called on his way to give me his ETA, he arrived on time, he assessed the work and he provided me with prompt and very clear quotes with an explanation to me in a way I could understand. He completed the work and did a terrific job of it. So happy and relieved that the issue is fixed. He also provided some quotes for some other things in the home that need to be fixed as well and we will proceed with those in the near future as well. I work at a service company and this company and Tony specifically, did a fantastic job. What a friendly and well run business. Thank you! I highly recommend The Crazy Plumber and believe in leaving a great review when I receive great service.
Brad has been fantastic to work with. Every time we’ve called on him, he’s delivered top-quality work, been reliable, and handled everything professionally. He makes things easy for our real estate team, which goes a long way when timelines matter. We’ll definitely be working with him again and again. Highly recommend.
The entire experience was very efficient and professional. The company called me back right away after I sent in a request for a quote online. They were able to send Karn to address our clogged kitchen sink the same day (a Saturday). We were impressed that he came on time, was upfront about the flat-rate pricing, did the work efficiently and professionally, and cleaned up after the work was done. Karn and Daniel came back again next week to do additional hydro jetting for us. Overall we really appreciate the level of professionalism. It is a huge relief for us to find plumbers that are reliable!
Called today with a leaking toilet and they were able to fit me in after 5 PM on a Saturday. Jordon was friendly, professional, and took the time to explain what he found and answer my questions. The work was completed efficiently, everything was cleaned up afterward, and it's all working perfectly. Thanks again, Jordon!
Karn was great, answered all my plumbing related questions. Booking was very easy and they are flexible with scheduling.
Brad came over at short notice to check a leak in our faucet. It was an easier fix than we anticipated and Brad fixed it for no charge. Appreciated the honesty as we had been quoted a ridiculous amount by another local plumber. Will definitely use the Crazy Plumber for future plumbing needs.
